A year ago, my dear friend Mark Menjivar, a fellow artist asked me to make a piece for his second son.  Mark’s son, who is now 4, is learning the value and the importance of the individual within the family unit.

I created a piece loosely inspired by the De Stijl Movement where primary colors, vertical and horizontal lines, and rectilinear form create ultimate simplicity and abstraction.

In this piece, the individual vases can be configured in many ways, while always returning to the unit when not in use.  This sense of play and use will develop over time as Mark's son's aesthetic develops.
